Spanish Souvenirs (Part 1)

Spain is a country that receives more than 50 million foreign visitors per year and in addition many Spaniards celebrate their holidays in their own country. Most of these visitors like to take something back home as a souvenir.

What people end up taking home with them depends a lot on their personal preferences of course, but also on which part of Spain was visited. Food items are on most peoples' lists. Spanish cuisine is world renowned and I think many a visitor wants the recreate the memory of a warm summer night on a terrace sipping wine and eating tapas. Vacuum wrapped chorizos, cured ham (jamon), cheeses, olives and anchovies are all readily available to take home.

A Night out in Spain

Part 2 - Continuing from "Travel in Barcelona" By Justin Meadows - Guest blogger traveling in Spain.

Yo! I totally thought everyone exaggerated about how great the night life in Spain was. I was pleasantly surprised to find out that nobody was lying. It really is something you must experience first hand at least once in your life!! I'm re-thinking my plans about the coastal beaches and may hang here this weekend. We were out all night. Can I tell you how strange it is heading out of a nightclub in the daylight after the sun comes up? The end result of that is that I'm hurting big time for a good night's sleep. I'm not sure I'll be able to keep this up on a long term basis.

We had a great time!! Good music, good fun, not too expensive. I'm looking forward to doing it again. Probably not on a weeknight though. I know my main focus is on the Spanish learning, but this side of the culture is definitely a bonus. Haven't seen many of the cultural or historical sights yet, so I've gotta get those in next week.

Travel Barcelona

By Justin Meadows - Guest blogger traveling in Spain.

I arrived in Spain on Sunday. I finally feel like I'm starting to get used to the time difference. When I first arrived, I was so out of it. I really don't like that jet lagged feeling. (A first for me). So far things in Barcelona are great. My host family is about 15 minutes away from school by subway, but the subway is so easy to use and not too expensive. I'm pretty sure my Spanish is already starting to improve. However, I must confess that it's very hard to get up in the morning and have people yapping to you in Spanish when your mind can barely function in English at that time of day. I'm sure I'll get the hang of it though (or at least get more used to it).

The other day after class, a bunch of us headed down to Las Ramblas to walk around. That was pretty cool. Some of the street performers are amazing. I also headed over to the waterfront today to see the Mediterranean up close and personal for the first time. Pretty hard to believe I'm actually here! This weekend, I'm hoping to head down the coast a bit as I've heard the really good beaches are south of Barcelona. So far the weather's been pretty good, but it's been hot.

I'll write some more soon...
